Apparently, George W. Bush no longer even cares to PRETEND he should be trusted.

So troubling it's almost funny at this point. Not even an illusion of justice. Not a pardon, hm? Let's see how down-home conservative America likes that.

So it's not okay for Bush to commute a sentence, but it's totally acceptable for Clinton to issue full pardons for his cronies while he was in office?

(Not to be overly facetious, but it's a point worth considering.)

Sorry. My verb tenses are completely screwed up there...

It's really not so much about the number of pardons (http://jurist.law.pitt.edu/pardonspres1.htm) as it is that this seems to me to show that he is extremely out of touch with how this looks, how this is perceived, what it makes him and his administration seem like to the public that is already, you know, pretty disillusioned with him and his ideas. Forgive me for being all rhetorical about it, but he shows absolutely no interest in building ethos appeal, and it's startling, especially in someone who is supposed to have so many advisors and handlers.

What do you think about the person who actually broke the agent's name going free? Do you know if they just didn't have the evidence to charge him and went after Libby as a consolation prize?

Perhaps Bush has decided that since Congress isn't going to do anything he wants now, he just doesn't care anymore? Lame duck syndrome?

(You can get as rhetorical as you'd like.)

Seems to me he still has a harsher sentence than Sandy Berger.

Not surprising since his case actually went to trial.

It does seem pretty out-of-touch. I wish the middle-of-the-road were stronger at this time, that we all had more consensus.

With times like these I wish we weren't so polarized, so fragmented.

But maybe US politics has always been a rough-and-tumble, opinionated affair? The Federalists and Anti-Federalists, the populists and corporate factions of the late 1800's, early 1900's, not to mention the 1850's and 60's?

Meybe so, but still would wish for more meeting in the center...

Let's all hold hands and shine the light on this deceptive administration. Let's chant, "Impeach!" This move is so by-the-books it's not funny; first indict him as the fall guy, then pardon him (unpardon? Psuedo-pardon?) and Cheney continues to roam the streets. W has nothing left to lose.

Whenever I get all down about what a tosser our guy is, I remind myself that at least we don't have Dubya for PM.

hey, what does your hubby think about Gordon Brown?

I especially love his justification.
